I spent two weeks volunteering at Forty Hall at the beginning of September 2013. I’m currently in my final year studying Fine Art at the University of Kent, and wanted to learn about the inner workings of a museum to give me an idea of what role I would like to pursue when I complete my degree.

On my first day, I was thrown in to helping taking down an exhibition, and setting up the next exhibition. This was a really interesting and valuable experience for me, and I gained skills that I will use both in my studies and in the future. Throughout the rest of the two weeks, my main task was to draw four illustrations to be used as sheets for children who visit the hall to complete and colour in. Spending time doing something I am passionate about and being able to discover more about Forty Hall in the process was great.

I really loved being able to work in such a beautiful and inspiring setting surrounded by a friendly and welcoming team. Not only was my time there very enjoyable, I also learnt lots about myself – my strength and weaknesses, and I now have a better idea of in which direction I want to pursue with my future career.
