Forty Hall commemorates World War One with special exhibition event

Legacy: Two works on hope and memory

To commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of World War One, the Crafts Council and Forty Hall present an exhibition of two contemporary craft installations under the ‘Curate with Us’ programme.

This exciting exhibition brings together two of the world’s most significant artists for the first time and offers quiet reflection on the collective and personal impact of loss, legacy, testimony and commemoration.

The two works ‘Everyman’s Dream’ by Clare Twomey and Julian Stair’s ‘Reliquary for a Common Man’ whilst not directly concerned with the First World War, offer a means of contemplating themes associated with commemoration, remembrance and the significance of the First World War. The artworks are part of the Crafts Council, national, Collection.

Cllr Rohini Simbodyal, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport, Youth and Public Health said “This beautiful craft installation, specially presented to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One, is a unique exhibition which looks at loss, remembrance and commemoration for the ordinary person. As time goes by it becomes harder to meet anyone who fort in that terrible war, we must try to remember them and remember that they were ordinary people like us.

“I would urge everyone to come and find out for themselves just how wonderful this high quality exhibition is, and how is gives a fitting tribute to those who have lost loved ones, not only in conflict, but at other times.”
