We had the opportunity to spend time getting to know Brooke Jazz Lawrence. Delving into her character we found out more about her inspirations and motivations in life.

Enfield, for me, is…

‘Where I grew up… I lived in Barnet but I went to school in Enfield. Life was where your friends were so I have fond memories of growing up with them there. It was the first place I was allowed to go on my own with them, shopping in Enfield Town on a Saturday!’

Who inspires you?

‘My mum, she does everything she can for me, and with such strength. She’s very motivating and my biggest fan when it comes to my music.’

Best Valentine’s date?

‘I have never been on a Valentine’s date – even when I’ve been with a boyfriend! So my dream date would be something fun, nothing too soppy, like paintballing in the film ’10 Things I Hate About You’. No boats though – I’d get seasick.’

Last album you downloaded?

‘My Wild West by Lissie. She’s like an undercover Ellie Goulding. I love her passion. I love the way she really owns her music and believes in what she’s singing which a lot of artists aren’t doing these days.’

Favourite place in Enfield?

‘The shoe section in Tkmaxx, Enfield Town without a doubt! I love shoes; as soon as I could speak the first thing I asked for at Christmas were shoes! I’ve also recently been catching up with my Enfield friends and we’ve been spending time in The George. It’s really cool; there’s a DJ, it’s cheap and the night finishes early so you’re back home at a good time.’

Last book you read?

‘A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. It’s an amazing read and follows the two Afgan women whose lives become intertwined through a series of traumatic events. It’s an empowering read for women.’

Favourite love song?

‘‘I Can't Make You Love Me’ by Bonnie Raitt. It’s one of those golden lines in songwriting; one of those ‘I wish I’d wrote that’ moments.’

Your biggest accomplishment?

‘Performing at TEDx Houses of Parliament. It was so scary but exhilarating too, just knowing that Lianne La Havas played the year before! I am used to playing to standing crowds who are drinking – this was a conference-style crowd at 11am so it was very different and it went really well.’

Best thing about your job?

‘Everyday is different which is great. Being a music freelancer is a rollercoaster journey. You don’t always know what’s coming next but one thing leads to another and the highs are definitely very high.’

Last telephone call you took?

‘A call from my mum, of course, asking me when I am coming home and telling me that it’s raining (because I went out in shorts earlier)!’

Best bit of advice you’ve been given?

‘To just have fun, don’t be negative and live every moment like it’s your last.’
