Following The Success Of The Autumn Classical Concert Series, Forty Hall Estate Announces A New Programme Of Classical Music Concerts This Summer, Developed In Partnership With The Royal College Of Music And Lauderdale House In Highgate.
Throughout the summer audiences will be able to enjoy stirring music in a stunning venue one weekend a month and early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
The programme opens on Friday 22 May with award-winning instrumentalists Ruairi Glasheen (percussion) and Laura Snowden (guitar) performing early and contemporary music drawing on folk traditions from across the world. Highly recommended by the Royal College of Music, the pair have performed together at Bestival, Royal Albert Hall, BBC Proms Lates, and live on BBC Radio 3.
Return the following night (Saturday 23 May) to enjoy listening to three of the most active, versatile and engaging oboists in London, the Landseer Oboe Trio (Ben Marshall, Jesse Bescoby & Fiona Myall) performing a musical medley from contemporary composers including Jay Ungar, Frank Bridge, James Macmillan and legendary John Adams. The group have performed at Wilderness music festival, contemporary music night "Acoustic Figures" and nationally and internationally with orchestras such as The Royal Ballet Sinfonia
Two quartets perform in June with Aureus Quartet opening the weekend on Friday 19 June. The London-based quartet make their debut at the Hall and perform a selection of music by Beethoven, Webern, Sollima and Shostakovich at an evening sure to delight.
Join the Alauda Quartet on Saturday 20 June as they explore the difference between classic and romantic music movements, featuring composers Caetani and Haydn. Selected as Park Lane Group artists for 2015 the Quartet has enjoyed many successes, and were awarded Highly Commended in the Wolfe Wolfinsohn String Quartet Competition at the Royal Academy of Music in 2012.
On Friday 17 July Forty Hall favourites the Lovekyn Consort return to the Hall this summer to illustrate the semi-secret culture of Elizabethan devotional songs, theatrical airs and arrangements of sacred music along with coded references in Shakespeare’s texts. The Consort are Patricia Hammond (Alto), William Summers (Renaissance Flute, Recorder) and Stephen Carpenter (Lute, Renaissance Guitar) and they will play authentic instruments from the time of the composition.
Highly praised by the Royal College of Music, BLOCK4 arrive at the Hall on Saturday 18 July. The group are a London based recorder quartet featuring Emily Bannister, Lucy Carr, Katie Cowling and Rosie Land and are renowned for their dynamic approach to contemporary consort music and interpretation of music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
And for those looking to spend enjoy a Sunday afternoon soaking up some classical music the Hall are offering, for the first time, short taster classical concerts on Sunday 12 July and 23 August. Harpsichordist Yeo Yat-Soon will explore music from the Tudor, Stuart and Hanoverian eras at these afternoons; which are priced at just £5 (with a complimentary tea or coffee included in the price).
