Civil War: Uncivil Combat

Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June

10.30am - 5pm

The year is 1643 and the English Civil War comes to Forty Hall as the Red Regiment of the London Trained Bands encamps in the gardens and meets the owner of the House, Sir Nicholas Rainton.

Explore the full military campsite, meet and talk to the soldiers, look at the equipment, handle the weapons and try on the armour.  Marvel at display drills by pikemen, musketeers and artillery throughout the day, plus try your hand with pikes and muskets, and even a child-sized cannon (non-firing, of course)!

Watch a performance of 'Journey of the Soldier' on the lawn, take part in a C17th children's quiz and, finally, watch soldiers in combat as fresh Roundhead soldiers launch an attack.

Join us to find out who will win!

Delivered in partnership with Sir Marmaduke Rawdon's Regiment of Foote. For full itinerary click here

Thanks for a wonderful day, I know the students really benefited from the experience and are looking forward to creating work for the exhibition!
